When the organization’s Texas employees gathered for the annual employee appreciation meeting in October 2016, they did so with a higher purpose in mind. Nearly 400 employees supported a canned food drive and fundraiser to support the North Texas Food Bank, a nonprofit hunger-relief organization serving 13 counties in North Texas.

“The Kent family seized the opportunity to bring our company mission to life,” shared Keith Collinsworth, President of Kent Companies Texas. “This event usually celebrates the accomplishments of our team from the past year. This year, we did so much more.” The Kent Companies food drive resulted in a truckload delivery of canned food to NTFB and a donation of over $1700 – a combination of employee contributions and a corporate matching donation.

According to statistics released by NTFB, approximately one in every six people in Texas is food insecure. There are over 850,000 people in NTFB’s service area that go hungry on a regular basis.

“When our team learned that one in every four kids in North Texas is food insecure, it really hit home,” shared Angel Alvarez, Kent Companies Vice President of Multifamily Operations. “We say we’re in the ‘people business,’ and that means taking care of our families and those who live in the communities where we build. It’s very rewarding to see the team take those values and translate them into action.”
