Kent Companies Presented with MCA’S Michigan Award of Excellence
[Grand Rapids, Mich. – February 17, 2022] – The Michigan Concrete Association recognized Kent Companies, Inc. with the Michigan Award of Excellence in the Structural-Commercial category for its concrete work on the Red Cedar Retaining Walls in Lansing, Michigan. The award recognizes and promotes quality workmanship on projects designed, constructed, or restored during the past year.
Kent Companies was presented the award at a luncheon on Thursday, February 17, at the Inn at St. John’s in Plymouth, Mich.
Kent Companies’ scope of work included 850 LF of retaining walls with an average height of 14’-0” and varying thickness of 1’-0” to 1’-6”. The decorative walls and footings required 1,850 cubic yards of concrete.
The Red Cedar Retaining Walls are noteworthy because the intricate stone pattern wrapped around a 90-degree corner. The Kent Companies team ensured alignment of the form liners and reveal strips at all heights.

“The craftsmanship of Red Cedar’s retaining walls is remarkable. These decorative retaining walls were incredibly complex, requiring strong attention to detail,” said Kent Companies Division Manager Steve McCoy.
