Congratulations to our Honor Coin Recipients
In late May, we hosted six different Make it Happen events across the Midwest and Southeast. We celebrated the accomplishments of our team members and our growth across the country.
Among the many handshakes, atta’ boys, and stories shared…one thing rings loud and clear: Kent Companies is in the people business.
Our people are our first priority, and we’re thankful you share your skills with us every day. The future is very bright at Kent Companies, and we’ll always be the best place for people who want to work hard and be a part of something big.
Congratulations to Phil Shafer, Jake Smit and Bob Despres on your recognition with a Kent Companies Honor Coin.

What is a JSA?
A Job Safety Analysis/Safety Task Analysis is a procedure that applies accepted safety and health principles and practices into a task or job operation to make it safer. Most General Contractors today require the daily/weekly use of a JSA/STA. If we are not using a GC’s form of JSA/STA, we should be using our own at least on a weekly basis, or more frequently as required by our contract.
What are the basic steps for conducting a Job Safety Analysis?
- Break down the job into identifiable steps
- Identify the hazards
- Evaluate the hazards
- Recommend safe procedures and protection measures
Hazards to Focus On:
- Sharp edges
- Fall hazards
- Potential for being caught in between
- Worker posture/balance (Ergonomics)
- “Struck by” or “caught between” hazards
- Suspended loads
- Environmental hazards
Control methods for hazards include elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls and PPE. Contact your Safety Manager for support on JSAs and implementing control methods for your job site.
