Vice President of Pre-Construction, Matt Fennema, Selected as Board member for Associated Builders and Contractors West Michigan Chapter

[Grand Rapids, MI] – The Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) West Michigan chapter has named Matt Fennema, Kent Companies Vice President of Pre-Construction, as one of three new members on their Board of Directors.

The Associated Builders and Contractors is an A/E/C trade association committed to providing ethical, safe, profitable, and high-quality construction to the West Michigan region. As part of the Board of Directors, Fennema will work alongside other A/E/C company executives to promote these values.

Since Kent Companies’ founding in 1957, the VanderLaan family has implemented shared values with ABC to expand Kent Companies operations across the nation. Fennema, a third-generation owner and grandson of Kent Companies founder John VanderLaan, continues this legacy and is looking forward to expanding his impact as a new board member.

“Kent Companies has a long-standing history with Associated Builders and Contractors. We align our values with theirs. We are experts in our field of work, and we have the responsibility of being the stewards of the merit shop philosophy in our area.” said Fennema.

“Kent Companies and our people have really benefitted from the resources provided by ABC West Michigan over the years. I’m excited to be joining the board and see how we can continue to support our members and protect the merit shop.”

Over the course of his 15-year career, Fennema has gained experience with a number of industry associations. He has previously served as board president for the American Concrete Institute of West Michigan and the American Subcontractors Association of Michigan. Fennema began his 3-year term on the Board of Directors for ABC Western Michigan in January of 2023.
