No Guesswork, No Delays: How We Delivered a Stable Floor for a Historic Renovation

Renovating spaces comes with its share of unknowns. If we know anything, it's that flooring failures don’t start with the finish layer; they start with what’s underneath. And at The Olde Mecklenburg Brewing Office Renovation in Charlotte, NC, the challenge was right under our feet.

When our Kent Underlayments team arrived on site, we were met with an aging manufacturing slab that had seen decades of wear, contaminants, and unpredictable moisture conditions. It's a familiar scenario for anyone working in renovation: the excitement of a fresh space... quickly met by the reality that the existing subfloor is not ready to support what comes next.

Before any flooring system can go in, there’s one non-negotiable step: surface prep. Ignoring contaminants or moisture in the slab can lead to adhesion failure, costly delays, and flooring systems that don’t last. That’s why we don’t guess. We assess and address.

The Right Products for the Right Conditions

To bring confidence and stability to this floor, we turned to Maxxon’s trusted renovation system:

  • Maxxon Profile – This surface treatment helped us degrease and profile the existing slab. It removed residual oils and contaminants while prepping the surface for long-term adhesion.
  • Maxxon Commercial Isolate – Once the surface was ready, we installed Isolate as a permanent barrier against moisture and chemical contaminants within the slab. It’s a durable solution that protects new flooring systems from the inside out.

This kind of subfloor remediation is essential. Our team delivered a clean, stable surface ready for the next phase of construction and ensured the client could move forward with confidence.

Whether you’re working on a legacy building or a high-traffic commercial space, Kent Underlayments brings the expertise and materials to get your floor right the first time. Have questions about your subfloor conditions? Let’s talk. We’ve seen it all and we’re ready to help.
